Active Parenting of Teens (ages 13-18)
DATES: Thursdays-October 14, 21, 28, Nov 4, 11, 18 (2010) from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm

Not one of us is born knowing how to be a parent. We learn by watching our own parents and by trial and error. We have so many questions: How can I build my child’s self-esteem? How can I get my child to listen and share and play nicely? How do I handle a defiant toddler or a discouraged preschooler?
Atascadero Adult Education is here to offer you information and education to help you make your parenting experience as creative and enjoyable as possible. Parent Education is a great place ot learn new parenting skills and ideas in addition to gaining some invaluable moral support and encouragement along the way.
CLASS LOCATION: 4507 Del Rio Road, Atascadero
CLASS MEETING TIMES: Each class meets one day a week, according to the child’s age group (Monday-Friday, from 9-11:30a.m., during the school year only).

ChildSharing offers online co-parenting classes for adults who are raising children between two homes (due to family transitions such as divorce,  separation and remarriage) and who are interested in learning better co-parenting and coping skills. These 4-hour online co-parenting classes meet national standards  for court mandated programs and parents will receive a Certificate of Completion.

Parents Helping Parents will be holding parenting classes for parents of children ages 0-3 in Atascadero on September 30th and October 1st. The classes are funded by the Tri-Counties Regional Center Prevention Program and are offered in English and Spanish.

Prevention Program Flyer SPANISH

This fun and interactive class takes place in a child care setting in Atascadero. Parents are strongly encouraged to bring their children as part of the learning process. Dads and expectant parents are welcome as well. The class provides an opportunity for parents to interact with their children while learning helpful tips on child development and positive parenting. Time is allotted for a small circle time in which parents can address any concerns or questions. This project is in collaboration with Atascadero Adult Education and the Community Action Partnership Teen Academic Parenting Program (TAPP).

CURRENTLY RECRUITING FAMILIES
P.O.P.S. groups are led by licensed Marriage and Family Therapists and designed for parents with a child 11 years or younger. Goals include: strengthening family communication, increasing positive father-child involvement, identifying family stressors, and improving the quality of the parents’ relationship (which benefits the child).
DATES: We are currently recruiting for groups in Paso Robles and Arroyo Grande

TUITION: participation is FREE, free childcare, and 
up to $200 in cash incentives are provided during the program

An excellent opportunity for parents and their children ages 6-11 years old to focus on parenting skills, child social/life skills, family relationship skills and to gain new communication tools. This 14-week program includes skill building and education for dealing with challenging behaviors, substance use and anger, as parents learn problem-solving skills and how to strengthen family bonds. The program provides transportation, dinner, and fun family activities.
DATES: Next session starts September 21st. The class is held Tuesday nights, for 14 consecutive weeks.
TIME: 5:00-7:30p.m. (includes dinner)
LOCATION: North County
TUITION: free, transportation is available and childcare may be provided
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS: Designed for parents and primary caregivers with children age 6-11 who wish to improve their family communications and help their entire family learn new skills.
