Parent Connection of San Luis Obispo County does not endorse the parenting classes and resources listed on this site, but provides the information as a service to our community. If you have concerns regarding a particular class, please contact the agency who is providing the resource (listed with each class, under “CONTACT”).
Through this program you will learn skills that will help you develop cooperation, responsibility and good character in your children. You will also learn positive discipline techniques so you can avoid those all-too-familiar power struggles. Best of all, you will be able to share ideas with other parents who know exactly what you are going through! Childcare is provided free of charge for all the classes.
Active Parenting for 5-12 Year Olds: Tuesdays (September 28th-November 2nd) from 6:00-8:00p.m. in the C.L. Smith-Staff Lounge. Facilitated by Sunshine Frawley.
Active Parenting for Teens: Wednesdays (September 22nd-October 27th) from 6:00-8:00p.m. at the San Luis Coastal Adult School, Room B3. Facilitated by Julie Ashworth and Sallie Higgins.

Not one of us is born knowing how to be a parent. We learn by watching our own parents and by trial and error. We have so many questions: How can I build my child’s self-esteem? How can I get my child to listen and share and play nicely? How do I handle a defiant toddler or a discouraged preschooler?
Atascadero Adult Education is here to offer you information and education to help you make your parenting experience as creative and enjoyable as possible. Parent Education is a great place ot learn new parenting skills and ideas in addition to gaining some invaluable moral support and encouragement along the way.

Children: The Challenge of Divorce
This class addresses the needs of children whose parents maintain separate households and provides the “how to” of maintaining an ongoing co-parental relationship. This class is for adults only and satisfies the Court’s requirements for parent education prior to receiving final orders.
Co-Parenting Essentials (COPE)
A co-parental education class for divorced & divorcing parents, parents with shared custody, and parents without custody, who are involved in continued conflict. Parents will learn about the detrimental effects of conflict on their children and will learn new ways to communicate to end fighting and to increase cooperation

ChildSharing offers online co-parenting classes for adults who are raising children between two homes (due to family transitions such as divorce, separation and remarriage) and who are interested in learning better co-parenting and coping skills. Prevention Program Flyer SPANISH
This fun and interactive class takes place in a child care setting in Atascadero. Parents are strongly encouraged to bring their children as part of the learning process. Dads and expectant parents are welcome as well. The class provides an opportunity for parents to interact with their children while learning helpful tips on child development and positive parenting. Time is allotted for a small circle time in which parents can address any concerns or questions. This project is in collaboration with Atascadero Adult Education and the Community Action Partnership Teen Academic Parenting Program (TAPP).

The goal of the Parent Participation Program is to enhance parenting skills through classroom discussion, interaction and observation. Parent and child attend class once a week and focus on the developmental stages of the child. Curriculum includes teacher-led discussions on parenting techniques and strategies for creating a healthy family environment. In class, parents share their challenges and successes while children enjoy age-appropriate play, circle time, and songs. Through interacting with other parents and children while participating in the classroom environment, parents gain a greater understanding of the needs and abilities of their children.

Loving Solutions is a 7-week class for parents of strong-willed and impulsive children ages 5 to 10 years. Don’t ignore behaviors that you hope the children will outgrow.
