2010 Trainings
September 16th: The Impact of Generational Influences on Families, with Bill Schmidt, LMFT and Laura Ortiz, LMFT
Most parents want to do some things differently from the families they grew up in, but it is a challenge to break undesirable habits from one generation to the next. Parent’s memories and feelings associated with their own growing up affect their feelings about their children and affect the way they parent. Please join us as we discuss ways to help parents recognize and break unhealthy generational influences and set healthy boundaries with their parents and in-laws.
October 21st: Facilitation Skills and Engaging Parents, with Tim Ross
An overview of basic facilitation skills (First Impressions, Capturing the Audience, Dealing with Questions, Reducing Resistance) and examples of techniques for engaging parents in class (Roleplay, Video, Readings, Q & A, etc.). Through the presentation of a typical Love & Logic Class, Tim will discuss and model facilitation skills for parenting classes, while engaging parent educators using tried and true techniques for effective class presentations.
November 18th: TBA
December 16th: TBA
R.S.V.P. (mgordon@slocap.org), to ensure goodies, handouts and door prizes
